Sunset helps families find and transfer financial assets after losing a loved one. To give you the best results, we limit our search to deaths that occurred within the past three years.
Why the 3-year limit?
Our asset discovery tools work by connecting with financial institutions and searching records to find accounts in your loved one's name. Over time, this data becomes harder to access. Accounts get closed, records get archived, and institutions change how they store older information.
After three years, search results become less reliable. We'd rather be upfront about this than give you incomplete information during an already difficult time.
What Sunset can find
When a death occurred within the last three years, Sunset can search for a wide range of financial assets, including:
Bank accounts (checking and savings)
Retirement accounts (401k, IRA, pension)
Investment accounts (stocks, bonds, brokerage accounts)
Life insurance policies
Funeral insurance
Health savings accounts (HSA)
Credit cards and debts
Real estate property
Vehicles
Cryptocurrency
Business ownership
Unclaimed property
Most families discover all known accounts within one day, though some bank account confirmations can take up to two weeks.
What if the death was more than 3 years ago?
If your loved one passed away more than three years ago, we unfortunately can't help with asset discovery. You may want to reach out directly to financial institutions where you believe they held accounts, or check your state's unclaimed property database.
