Paying the Fee From the Estate

Any Sunset fee counts as an estate administration expense, so the executor can reimburse it from the estate. Sunset never takes a percentage of the estate, and every dollar we recover goes to the beneficiaries and heirs.

How Sunset Is Funded

The fee families pay is only part of how Sunset is funded. Sunset also earns revenue from our bank partnerships and from Sunset Pro, the version of Sunset used by attorneys, fiduciaries, and financial advisors who settle estates for their clients. Revenue from both helps pay for the work Sunset does for families.

What Has No Charge

  • Credit bureau death notification. Our tool that notifies Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion of a death is free for anyone, whether or not you use Sunset for anything else.

  • The estate bank account. It's free to open and maintain.

Common Questions

Does the price depend on the size of the estate?

No. Sunset doesn't charge a percentage of the estate, so a larger estate doesn't mean a larger fee.

Does it cost more if there are several heirs?

No. The number of heirs doesn't change what Sunset costs.

I'm an attorney or fiduciary. Is pricing different for me?

Yes. Professionals who settle estates for clients use Sunset Pro, which has its own pricing. Contact us and we'll point you to the right place.
